About me

Dr Jason Moran PhD

I’m Dr Jason Moran, a Senior Lecturer, accredited strength and conditioning coach, and researcher specialising in youth athlete development. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications, I’m ranked among the top 10 global experts in muscle strength research (ExpertScape).

My work focuses on bridging the gap between science and practice — helping coaches, practitioners, and organisations optimise how young athletes are trained, tested, and supported throughout their development.

My Research

I completed my PhD on “The effectiveness of resistance, plyometric, and sprint training at different stages of maturation in male youth athletes.” My research explored how youth respond to different training types across various phases of maturation. It has been widely cited and has influenced strength and conditioning practices for youth athletes worldwide.

My Coaching & Sporting Experience

I am a UKSCA-accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach with experience working across multiple sports, including rugby union and Gaelic football.

Before my academic career, I played professional rugby, representing Leinster Rugby and Ireland U21, which gave me a deep understanding of high-performance sporting environments.
